We’ve all got the “I’m fine” act down pat. On the outside we’re all smiles, “achievements”, with all the “must have” things we’re supposed to possess. On the inside, though, we’re feeling burnt out and exhausted — tired of always pushing harder, achieving more, and never getting the chance to stop and actually enjoy any of it.

But, it’s not just us suffering alone — far from it! It’s a global epidemic hiding behind fake smiles. And the stats around burnout back this up loud and clear:
- Two-thirds of employees worldwide report struggling with burnout (BCG, 2024).
- In the U.S., 66% of workers said they were burned out in 2025 (Forbes, 2025).
- The World Health Organization has officially classified burnout as an “occupational phenomenon” marked by chronic exhaustion, cynicism, and reduced effectiveness (WHO, 2019). Sound familiar?
WHY WE AREN’T FIXING OURSELVES
Let’s be honest… we all know stress and burnout are everywhere in this world gone mad. And we all know what to do, right? How many times have you gotten advice, rolled your eyes, and thought, “Yeah, yeah, I know THAT” — then carried on not doing it?
Lack of information isn’t the problem anymore. If anything, it’s the opposite — there’s way too much information coming at us from every direction, all the time. Most of it, however well-meaning, just keeps us stuck.
The cacophony of noise we exist in relentlessly reinforces the idea that we should just keep living lives that are draining the joy right out of us. Which is why we stay stuck! It’s very hard to listen to the whispers of wisdom when the world is yelling at us so loadly.

Burnout has reached epidemic proportions (66% of us are struggling with burnout right now). The numbers of households with pets though is equally high. As are the numbers of pet lovers who say that their pets improve their mental and physical health. So, what if we already live with the antidote to this burnout cycle that’s currently out of control?
The stats around how popular pets are and how good they are for our health are clear:
- In countries like Canada, Australia, Portugal, and the U.S., more than two-thirds of households have pets. That’s billions of natural healers already in our homes (Forbes, 2023).
- And 71% of pet owners say their pets boost their health — mind and body. We didn’t need a survey to tell us that, but it’s nice to have the receipts (Petpedia, 2024).
The healing benefits of animals is well documented and those of us with pets experience this healing first hand, every day. But, if we look at the stats:
- Less than 1% of people have formally registered support animals — e.g. Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) and Emotional Support Animals (ESA) in the USA (where this is most popular).
While the official registered support animal numbers are tiny, the lived reality is that pets are already doing this work every day — we just haven’t named it, structured it, or owned it yet. What if we showed people how to harness their pet’s superpowers instead of the vast majority of us just winging it? How much better at it could we be if we nutured and grew this support and connection?
Our animals are the whispers that are strong enough and loving enough to finally get us to stop listening to all the noise that’s burning us out — and instead, to tap into the incredible energy of the animals who know us best.
